PowerWood Canada Corp produces energy-dense, low carbon footprint black biofuel pellets as a direct ‘drop in’ substitute for coal.
Our black biofuel pellets are proven to burn with 87 percent of the energy of coal while their use produces just 6 percent of the carbon dioxide of coal. We manufacture them from only wildfire-damaged deadwood and diseased trees, to preserve the planet’s forest carbon sinks.
An innovative steam explosion process produces our best-in-class biofuel pellets – so power stations, steel mills and industrial factories need no costly upgrades or downtime to use them.

Our carbon-neutral facilities exist on the fringes of boreal forest regions, a minimal distance from feedstock sources. We work there closely with Indigenous communities to learn from them and enhance their forest environment. We produce the world’s most compact biofuel pellets to mitigate their subsequent carbon footprint.
At the point of burning, they have produced 94 percent less atmospheric carbon than coal but deliver almost the same energy payload – making them a powerful protagonist in the energy transition.

Steam-exploded black pellets are the latest evolution in clean-tech biofuel. They’re celebrated for their manifold upgrade on white and torrefied pellets as a replacement for coal.
Durable, waterproof and energy-dense, they can be stockpiled outdoors to eliminate the cost of dry silo storage. Unlike white pellets, they don’t break down when wet. And their superior energy density allows more energy to be transported, stored and consumed per unit of volume.
Pulverising our advanced black pellets for co-firing produces smaller particles in higher quantities and requires less power. Their grindability is a progression on all other available biofuel pellets.
