• Founder and CEO of Coalternative Energy and Powerwood Canada Corporation. David holds a degree Economics from LSE
• Successful background in the renewables sector, having founded, built and sold a number of renewable energy companies through his career. He also has a strong track record in the property, finance and IT sectors
• Founded his first solar company in 2009, undertaking numerous solar developments for the education sector including universities, academies and schools. He sold his interest in 2011
• A founder of a second solar company which undertook the solar PV development for ALDI Group, and which today continues to manage the solar initiative throughout the UK for the supermarket group. Upon selling his stake, David subsequently went on to undertake the development of GSHP for five major supermarkets in the UK later selling his interests to a private equity firm
• Developed a 6.5MW combined Heat & Power biomass plant in the UK, funded by the Green Investment Bank and sold to a private equity fund
• Assisted in the development and expansion of Agrofarm International AG, an owner operator of biomass plants throughout Italy.
• David is also currently involved in the development of the UK’s largest waste to energy plant (102 Meg) in Boston, UK and is also a founder and shareholder in a further UK based clinical waste management company

David stepped down from his role as CEO of the then largest Educational Trust in England in 2013, and has since been providing consultancy and advice to a range of businesses including education and training industries.

A proven entrepreneurial leader with an excellent track record in training and education. David’s particular skill set includes strategic planning and implementation, Leadership and Management training and development, Change Management, Infrastructure and organisational development, Compliance, and Staff performance and professional development review.

• David joined the Powerwood Canada Corporation Board as Commercial Director in 2016

KIMBLE GARRET, CHIEF TECHNICAL OFFICER

31 years of experience in ownership and management of multi-disciplined engineering firms, construction firms, and manufacturing companies associated with the Wood Products Industry.

Leadership strengths include strategic business planning and executing programs for all phases of the business life cycle (startup, expansion, contraction, turnaround, engineering). Diverse operational experience extends to finance/accounting, purchasing/materials management, logistics, production, QA/QC, HR, information systems, sales, and key account service. Expertise in budgeting, cash management, and cost controls.

Karen has been active in the sustainability market since 2000 and has worked on a number of International Cities projects; including in Algeria, Iraq, Jordan, London and Cambridge.


After graduating with an Economics degree Karen’s initial career was in insurance and commercial risk.  She then joined the UK Met Office to drive forward their international advisory services in climate change and severe weather risk.


As part of her role she looked at the impacts of weather on the energy market from the operational supply/demand side to the infrastructure investment side in renewables.


A natural progression was her move to AEA Technologies, a leading consultancy in climate change and energy matters.  Karen’s main focus was advising clients on energy conservation measures and ESCO type structures.


In 2011 she made the transition to lead the energy and resource efficiency and global sustainability.  The main focus is advising clients on their energy strategy including emerging technologies, the prioritisation of projects and how to finance them.


She has worked on engagements with clients such as EU, DECC, EA, Boots, NMUH, Sussex University, Pilkington Glass, Airbus, NATS.


She has authored a number of thought leadership pieces for the Healthcare, Real Estate, Consumer Goods, Infrastructure sectors.


She has delivered Plenary Sessions at a number of global conferences.


She has delivered international projects in South Africa, New Zealand and Ireland
